Visiting Cayo Largo in February 2019

Mr. P and I had been trying to slip away for a wee holiday for months. Each time we tried to get going something important arose and we stayed. Finally we were able to get away in February. We chose to return to a little island off the south coast of Cuba named Cayo Largo.

Guilt & Excitement

Two feelings I felt a lot before, during, and after leaving my job....and seemingly career...were guilt and excitement. I'd feel excited about all the new possibilities open to me and immediately feel guilty about doing this crazy thing right smack in the middle of my prime earning years.

Hittite Portal Lion

Many years ago, I encountered portal lions in the glorious Museum of Anatolian Civilization in Ankara, Turkey. That museum is breathtaking and I would love nothing more than to go back.  

I've always wanted to have portal lions guard my front door. And perhaps one day I will paint a pair in the entrance way. For now, I worked up a small drawing that is a blend of several reference photos.

After Michelangelo

Mr. P discovered there would be a once in a lifetime Michelangelo exhibit at The Met in New York. Within moments he suggested we go see it. Within a day or two tickets had been booked and arrangements for accommodations made. We went. It was spectacular.

Jamaican flora

Mr. P and I spent a delightful week in Jamaica celebrating my birthday and our anniversary. We both enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and are looking forward to visiting this particular resort again.

I took the usual sorts of art supplies with me (pens, pencils) and instead of carrying watercolours, I purchased a new pack of dual-tipped brush markers. Each one has a regular marker on one end and a brush on the other. The pack was rather brightly coloured and I thought it would be a good challenge to get away from my usual black/blue + white.
